Up, up and away…. Partner to Succeed to stage collaborative balloon race

20.05.10

A colourful celebration of Cornwall’s collaborative business community is set to be unleashed in Truro as part of a special week for entrepreneurialism in Europe.

Partner to Succeed, the ERDF Convergence funded business collaboration project, will be releasing 1000 balloons from Newham at noon on Friday, May 28.

The balloons will then race to travel the furthest, with 89 businesses in Cornwall that have engaged with the Partner to Succeed project being represented.

It’s all part of European SME Week 2010, which recognises the value of small and medium-sized enterprises in driving our economy.

Businesses that have partnered together will have the opportunity to tie their balloons together to increase their chances of travelling farther. Any business in Cornwall is welcome to take part.

Partner to Succeed programme director Helen Trudgeon explained: “The project has been incredibly successful since we launched in September last year, and this is a great way to mark how collaboration has been embraced in Cornwall.

“European SME Week is a chance for businesses to come together and celebrate the creativity and innovation in our county.”

All businesses are invited to join the Partner to Succeed balloon race by registering online at www.partnertosucceed.co.uk/great-balloon-race.php or calling 01872 613000.

The balloon release will take place at Silvertree Engineering on Heron Way, Newham – just one of the businesses to have benefited from Partner to Succeed’s business collaboration programme.

The winning business or collaboration of businesses will be treated to a trip in a real hot air balloon.

Partner to Succeed is being delivered by business development company YTKO. The project has been financed by £1.35 million from European Regional Development Fund Convergence together with £150,000 from the South West Regional Development Agency.

Editor's notes:

The Cornwall Business Collaboration Network project is part of Convergence, a multi-million pound European support programme designed to increase employment, skills and economic performance. Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly qualified for Convergence in 2005 because economic performance between 2000 and 2002 was below 75% of the European Union average.
