Congratulations to Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry
18.12.08
Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, congratulates the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry on its latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) ranking published today (Thursday 18th December).
The RAE assesses all research carried out by universities across the UK and the scoring influences levels of future research funding. This is the first RAE to which the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry has submitted research. In terms of the proportion of research rated as internationally excellent or world class, the College scores joint 11th out of 28 for hospital based clinical research and 13th out of 24 for health service research. This means the College is well ahead of its aim to be in the top 50 per cent of research in the areas in which it specialises by 2015.
Ms Kelemen said: "The Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry is a real asset for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Achieving this rating means that top class researchers can be attracted to contribute to the College’s growth and success. I warmly congratulate everyone involved in achieving this rating at such an early stage.”
The Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry is part of the Combined Universities in Cornwall and has received both Objective One and ERDF Convergence investment.
The ERDF Convergence Programme is investing in the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry to support the development of the dental school and research facilities in Truro, Cornwall.
